Jas. E. Talmage's private journal, Volume 8, 1894-1895
Scope and Contents
Handwritten journal includes nearly daily entries from July 23, 1894 to December 31, 1895. Begins in London, England, and ends with Talmage in Salt Lake City, Utah. Most entries are of meetings, lectures, and funerals Talmage attended. Mentions learning of the birth of his daughter while on his journey home from Europe in August 1894, and her subsequent death in April 1895. Also mentions being elected as Fellow of Royal Society of Edinburgh in December 1894. Includes description of travel to eastern states in February 1895, including Michigan, Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania, to visit universities, deliver lectures, and attend meetings, and a visit to Church historic sites in Kirtland, Ohio. Describes geological expedition to central and southern Utah, as well as Grand Canyon, Arizona, with University of Utah associates, July-September 1895. Dated 1894-1895.
