Scope and Contents note
Includes one photocopied diary belonging to Charles Langston documenting his years as a missionary in Tonga from 1916-1918. The collection also includes letters written by Elder Langston to his family in Rockville, Utah, as well as a letter from Willard L. Smith, President of the Tongan Mission to Elder Langston’s father, Jacob.

Biographical History
Charles John Langston (1895-1918) was a Mormon missionary who died from Spanish influenza while on his mission in Tonga.
Charles John Langston was born on March 24, 1895 in Rockville, Utah, to Jacob Heathcote Langston and Alice Maud Hall. While living in Lynndyl, Millard County, Utah, he received and accepted the call to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Tonga. He was set apart on December 13, 1916 and entered the field shortly thereafter. He spent almost two years in this field of labor, bearing his testimony to the truth of the gospel, when he was stricken with the Spanish influenza. He died on November 26, 1918 in Tonga from the effects of the disease.
