Scope and Contents note

The Republican Party tickets are presidential election tickets for Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson during the 1864 election. The tickets bear the name of the National Union Party. The collection consists of four original tickets and four photocopies.

Administrative History

The Republican Party is a national political party in the United States, and was founded in 1854. In the 1864 election, the party took the name National Union Party to allow the participation of Democrats.

Custodial History note

In 2009, the Republican Party tickets were found separated from their original collection. It is believed they were probably donated with a Samuel Brannan collection. The exact date of donation is not known, though it was probably in 1988.
