A voice in the dark / G. Richard Smack

Dates: 1966 December

Report by G. Richard Smack, who collected information from Mildred O. Larsen, who heard it from her grandmother, who claimed to be the woman in the story. The story has an early 1900s setting. In the story a woman has her husband called away to help a neighbor. Increasingly uneasy about his long absence, she finally screams for him to turn around. Her scream causes him to notice an attacker with a knife, who flees.
