Tie a yellow ribbon / Lisa Moore

Tie a yellow ribbon / Lisa Moore

Dates: 1983 November 13

Report by Utah State University folklore student LIsa Moore, who collected information from Gay Lynn Tucker. According to the story, a wayward young man is jailed. On his release, uncertain of his parents' feelings, he asks them to tie a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree by the train tracks if they will let him stay with them. Riding past on the train, he asks a seatmate to check; he finds the tree covered with yellow ribbons. Report makes no note of the popular song, but wording is nearly verbatim in at least one spot.
