Scope and Contents

Additions to the Indian Litigation Files of the Wilkinson Law Firm, ca. 1949-1960. They are mostly files of the Ute Tribe and Menominee Tribe, plus some law office correspondence files.

The seventeen bound volumes contain legal documents of Indian Litigation Cases heard by the Indian Claims Commission, 1949-1970. Litigants include the Turtle Mountain Band of the Chippewa Indians, the Uinta Utes, the Spokane Tribe, the Coeur D'Alene Tribe, and the Southern Utes.

This collection contains files and legal documents from the law firm of Wilkinson, Cragun, and Barker.

Biographical history

Ernest L. Wilkinson (1899 1978), president of Brigham Young University from 1951-1971, was a partner in the law firm of Wilkinson, Cragun, and Barker, who handled the Indian Claims Commission cases during the 1950's-1980's. The firm broke up in 1982.
