Biographical History

James N. McCabe (1947- ) served in Vietnam and received a degree in both photography and communications from BYU.

James N. McCabe (b. 1947) worked for the First Air Cavalry Division's Publication Information Office in Vietnam from September 1969 to September 1970. He served half of his tour in Song Be at fire support base (FSB) Buttons, and the remainder in Phouc Vinh. His responsibilities included photographing military life and operations. The division published both a weekly newspaper, The Cavalair, and a quarterly magazine, The First Team. McCabe would send whatever film he shot into the lab for selection to be printed. In addition to working for the military, McCabe frequently purchased his own film and carried an additional camera so that he could take photos of personal interest-mostly Vietnamese civilians, especially children.

McCabe earned a degree in photography from BYU in 1968 and a bachelor's in Communications in 1974 (with emphasis in photography). He worked in medical photography at the University of Minnesota until 2005 and has done extensive wedding photography.
