Joseph Robert Meservy and Phebe Meservy Higbee notebooks

Dates: 1864-1940

The Joseph Robert Meservy and Phebe Meservy Higbee notebooks consist of colored photocopies of the original notebooks. Joseph Robert Meservy's notebook begins in 1864 and contains a number of autobiographical notes, diary notations and summaries of pioneer business transactions. Phebe Meservy Higbee's notebook contains news and magazine articles, poetry, recipes, and family records. Both notebooks contain multiple pages of Pitman shorthand.

Biographical History

Phebe Meservy Higbee is the daughter of Joseph Robert Meservy.

Biographical History

Joseph Robert Meservy was born on the Island of Jersey in the Channel Islands in 1842. His parents first heard about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from the apostle John Taylor as Elder Taylor was passing by the Meservy farm in the 1850s. The family joined the Church and immigrated to Utah not long after.
