Administrative History

The Red Rock Chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers (after 1933- ) was organized in Kanab, Utah in support of SUP membership in the area.

The Red Rock Chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers (RRSUP) honors the pioneers of the past and present for their faith, devotion, loyalty, hard work, service, courage, integrity, and determination. RRSUP's activities support the National Society's missions of preserving the memory and heritage of the early pioneers of the Utah Territory through treks, symposiums, conventions, and scholarships. They are recognized as a respected contributor to the preservation of Mormon Pioneer history.

Biographical History

Merrill C. Mickelson (born 1929) is a businessman in Kanab, Utah.

Merrill C. Mickelson was born March 30, 1929 in Vermillion, Utah to Rulon Spencer and Jessie Chapman Mickelson. Merrill grew up in Manti, Utah and graduated from Manti High in 1947. Merrill worked for Bradshaw Auto Parts and was later sent to work at the store in Kanab, Utah. There he met Charlene Robertson and they were married May 6, 1960 in the St. George, Utah Temple. Later Merrill bought the auto part store and ran Mickelson Auto for many years. Merrill and Charlene are the parents of six children, Myrna, Sylvia, Wayne, Jay, Valerie, and Merilee. Merrill has been a member of the Red Rock Chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers for many years. Merrill enjoys spending time with family and for many years he has taken his grandchildren on hikes up Squaw Trail in Kanab, Utah. Merrill is a great example of giving service to church, family, and community and still chops wood for the widows in Kanab, Utah. As of February 2011 they are the grandparents of 36 and great-grandparents to five. Merrill and Charlene currently reside in their home of over 50 years in Kanab, Utah.
