Biographical History

Brent Ashworth (born 1949) is a collector of documents and memorabilia from Mormon and Utah history.

Brent Ferrin Ashworth was born January 8, 1949 in Albany, California to Dell Sheperd and Bette Jean Brailsford Ashworth. He was raised in Provo, Utah, where he attended Brigham Young High School. He later attended Brigham Young University, graduating in 1972 with a degree in History and Political Science. During this time he also served in the United States Army Reserves, with active duty service at Fort Ord, California in 1969. He married Charlene Mills on December 16, 1970 in the Salt Lake Temple, and they have nine children.

Ashworth pursued a career in law, obtaining his Juris Doctorate from the University of Utah in 1975. He has worked as an attorney in both government and industry. He has also served in various non-profit and community organizations, including work as a local ecclesiastical leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This has included serving as a bishop, a high counselor, and as an acquisition specialist for Church History Library.

Ashworth has also been deeply involved in the collecting of rare books and manuscripts related to Mormons and the West, establishing a business for this work in Provo in 2006.
