Biographical History

Kay L. Harline (1933-2015) was a Mormon wife and mother in California.

Kay Lorraine Swingle was born August 2, 1933 in Santa Monica, California to her parents Lorraine and Earle Swingle. Throughout her childhood, her family moved quite frequently--having lived in such places including Lake Forrest, Illinois and Miami Beach, Florida during her pre-teen years. Nevertheless, her family often vacationed in California (to places like Yosemite and Sequoia) and eventually moved back to the state (near Beverly Hills) where she graduated in Dorsey High in 1951 and attended one year at the University of California, Los Angeles.

In 1955, while performing in her local Mormon singles choir she met recently-divorced Lloyd Harline. After nine months of dating, they married in November of that year in the Saint George Temple and moved to Redondo, California with Lloyd's two kids from his previous marriage. While serving as a stay-at-home mother with their kids (which would total eight), she often took classes on the side to increase her learning and served in her local community as a Girl Scout leader, a Boy Scout leader, and a member of the PTA in the San Joaquin Valley. After her kids grew up, she and Lloyd moved to Orem, Utah to be closer to her children and grandchildren (many of whom were attending college at Brigham Young University or, at that time, Utah Valley State College) and often used the couple's free time to travel to places like Europe, East and Central United States, and Hawaii.

She passed away on October 10, 2014.

Biographical History

Lloyd Harline, Sr. (1927-2014) was a Mormon educational administrator in California. Lloyd Harline, Sr. was born January 14, 1927 as the fifth child to Horace and Lorine Harline in South Gate, California. During his childhood in the Great Depression, he managed to work various jobs including being a paper boy and a farm hand and managed to be good at basketball--to the point where his friend and NBA Hall of Famer Bill Sharman said that he was the only one he knew who could outshoot him. After growing up, he decided to assist in World War II by enrolling in the Maritime Service's radio operator program in New York. After proving to be not capable of working in the sea in 1945 (he had sea-sickness), he was then drafted to serve in the Army as a member of the 85th Signal Corps Battallion in Korea. After finishing his duty in the military, he soon married his first wife Naomi Baleme whom he had two children with and, once they divorced, married Kay Lorraine Swingle in 1955 in the Saint George Temple. As he raised his family (which grew up to eight children) with Kay, he also took the opportunity to go to university: first to Pepperdine where he got a bachelor's degree in Accounting and later at the University of Southern California where he got a bachelor's and a master's in Education. With the latter two degrees, he not only was able to teach Elementary-aged children, but then served as a principal in two Elementary Schools near Clovis, California from 1960 to his retirement in 1989: Temperance-Kutner and Mickey Cox. Afterwards, he and Kay left California to move to see the rest of their family in Orem, Utah in 1992, where he lived until his death in August 30, 2014.

In 1992, after their children settled in the Provo/Orem, Utah area to attend Brigham Young University, Lloyd and Kay moved to Orem, Utah, where they lived until their deaths in 2014.
