Contains photographs and awards from Gustave Edwin Putnam's work with veterans and his service in World War I, family photographs, and a brief autobiography. Most of the collection is from Putnam's life in Ogden, Utah. Approximately 1918-1976.

Biographical History

Gustave Edwin Putnam (1897-1976) was a Mormon World War I veteran from Utah.

On April 30, 1897 Gustave Edwin Putnam was born in Woodruff, Utah to Caroline Peterson and Andrew Jackson Putnam. The family later moved to Ogden, Utah, where Putnam spent most of his life. At 21 Putnam joined the Marine Corps and served in World War I. After his honorable discharge he began labor as a metalworker. On October 17, 1928 he married Stella Hunter. The couple had two sons, neither of whom lived to adulthood.

During his life Putnam was part of the Federal Service Retirees in Ogden and the Veterans of World War I, Barracks 1011. He had diverse interests; he edited a newspaper called "The Revile" for a time, was involved in politics, served as president and vice president of the Putnam Family Genealogy Research and Temple Organization, and was Historian of the State Department of Utah.

Gustave Edwin Putnam died in Ogden, Utah on March 22, 1976.
