Three Hugh Carlson and Gladys Styrlund Carlson travel scrapbooks documenting vacation trips from their home in Los Angeles, California through the western United States to Minnesota, including visits to National Parks and various Utah locations. Collected materials include written narratives, photographs, maps, postcards, printed ephemera, and newspaper clippings. Materials dated 1948-1951.

Biographical History
Hugh Carlson (1922-1995) was a director of the Department of Navy quality-assurance in California and enjoyed traveling the Midwest and western United States.
Hugh Carlson was born on July 17, 1922 to Sallie Mae Rumfield and Arthur Carlson in San Angelo, Tom Green, Texas. He attended school in Sherwood, Texas. He received degrees in management and engineering at the University of California, Long Beach. He married Gladys Styrlund on August 24, 1946 in Las Vegas, Clark, Nevada. Carlson and Styrlund traveled the Midwest and western United States in 1948, 1950, and 1951, and documented their travels with photographs, maps, financial logs, narratives, and other materials in scrapbooks. Gladys Styrlund died on March 4, 1968 in Whittier, Los Angeles, California.
He later married Dorothy Patricia Harris on August 17, 1968 in Imperial, Imperial, California. She died on July 15, 1979 in Covina, Los Angeles, California. He retired in 1978 as director of quality assurance for the Department of Navy in Pomona, California and married Hope Orthell Keegan on December 21, 1980 in Las Vegas, Clark, Nevada.
Carlson died on March 24, 1995 in Gholson, McLennaon, Texas.

Gladys Styrlund Carlson (1925-1968) was the wife of Hugh Carlson and enjoyed traveling the Midwest and western United States.
Gladys Styrlund was born in 1925 in Viking, Marshall, Minnesota. She married Hugh Carlson on August 24, 1946 in Las Vegas, Clark, Nevada. Hugh and Gladys traveled the Midwest and western United States in 1948, 1950, and 1951, and documented their travels with photographs, maps, financial logs, narratives, and other materials in scrapbooks.
Gladys Styrlund Carlson died on March 4, 1968 in Whittier, Los Angeles, California.
