Scope and Contents
Born in Gorhaum, Maine in 1814 to James and Hannah Harding Lewis. Sketch includes the following data; family background in Maine; went to sea for a few years, ended up in Saint Loring, Missouri; conversion to Mormonism, 1841; married Emily Jennson Holman, 1847; called to settle southern Utah, 1850; left Parowan to serve mission to China, 1852; returned from mission, 1854; married Emma Batman, 1877, called to grow cotton in Utah's Dixie; moved to Kanab, 1871; moved to Taylor, Arizona, 1882; returned to Kanab, 1891. Died in 1893.
