Janet Roberts Blamforth papers

Dates: 1975-1976

The collection consists of two biographies and miscellaneous photocopied papers that support the author's research. One biography is entitled "David Robert Roberts: the Father of Utah Good Roads." It is 25 pages of photocopied typescript and was written for the Utah 1976 Bicentennial Biography competition sponsored by the Salt Lake Tribune and the Utah State Historical Society. Roberts was a Utah politician who, as a Utah state legislator, pushed for improving roads in the state. The other biography is about Beatrice Jones Lloyd and is entitled "Who Said Columbia was Dead?" It won second place in the 1975 Bicentennial Article Contest sponsored by the Utah League of Writers. Lloyd was the model for the figure of Columbia on the Mormon Battalion Monument on the state capital grounds in Salt Lake City, Utah.
