The collection is divided into three series: 1. Institute of American Indian Studies files from the office Director Paul E. Felt, 1953-1967; 2. Institute of American Indian Studies files from the office Coordinator of Research James R. Clark, 1949-1970; and 3. Institute of American Indian Studies files from the office of Directors Paul and Dale Tingey, 1959-1972.

It is the responsibility of the researcher to obtain any necessary copyright clearances. Permission to publish material from the Institute of American Indian Studies records must be obtained from the Supervisor of Reference Services and/or the Special Collections Board of Curators.
