Biographical History

When organized the College included the departments of Industrial Education, Industrial Technology, and the Technical Institute. Later, Aerospace Studies (AFROTC), and Military Science (AROTC) were added. In 1972, the College was reorganized, and Aerospace and Military studies were moved to the General College.

The College of Industrial and Technical Education was organized in 1965 but related courses were taught at BYU since its beginning in 1875. When organized, the College included 3 departments: Industrial Education, Industrial Technology and the Technical Institute, initiated in 1958. Aerospace Studies (AFROTC) and Military Science (AROTC) Departments were later added and these five departments comprised the College when it was disbanded in 1972. At that time the Technical Institute was abandoned, the Industrial Education and Technology Departments were added to the College of Engineering and Technology and the Aerospace Studies and Military Science Departments were included in the General College.

Ernest C. Jeppsen served as the dean since the organization of the college. He had previously served as the dean of the General College which included the departments later placed in the College of Industrial and Technical Education. These departments and programs had been housed in temporary buildings until the construction of the Snell Building in 1960 and the dean's office was in the Social Hall.
