Department of Anthropology and Archaelogy records

Dates: 1947-1977

The documents in this collection are administrative records from the Department of Archaeology(formerly known as the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology) The first series contains audio-visual aids, as well as the college council meeting minutes and budget requests for new programs. The second series is a collection of correspondence from the years 1968-1977, including inter-campus correspondence, and correspondence with the government. The third series continues with additional administrative records, including, but not limited to information on students, staff, and course curriculum. The final series are the department chairman's files through the years 1957-1976. The files include ongoing incoming/outgoing correspondence, vehicle mileage and maintenance records, and papers.

Biographical History

The Department of Archaeology was organized in 1947 under the auspices of M. Wells Jakeman. Anthropology was attached to the Department of Social Sciences. In 1966, Archaeology and Anthropology were combined as the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology. The Department Chairs were M. Wells Jakeman, Ross Christensen, Merlin G. Meyers, John L. Sorenson, and Donald W. Forsyth.
