Jacob Hamblin diaries and autobiography

Dates: 1819-1886

Handwritten diary, its photocopy, and typescript. Among other things, the journal tells of activities relating to Mormon missions to the Moqui (Hopi) Indians, farming conditions near Kanab, Utah, and pioneer remedies for various ailments. Also includes transcripts of patriarchal blessings given to the Hamblin family, and a transcript of Jacob Hamblin's autobiography. Materials dated from 1819 to 1886.

Biographical History

Jacob Hamblin (1819-1886) was a Mormon pioneer, missionary, and federal Indian agent in Southern Utah. He was president of the Indian Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in southern Utah and northern Arizona.
