Kane's account of learning of Brigham Young's death; trip to Salt Lake; also explanations and comments made; describes Omaha and remembers it when it was Winter Quarters; mentions people on the train; John W. Young, Wilford Woodruff and Brigham Young, Jr. meet him at Ogden; hard for him to realize Young is dead; briefly mentions Indians and Young's death; notes on the Council of the Twelve and choosing a successor; some brief mentions of Brigham's will; mentions talking with several different people; makes note of appointments; mentions the ideal of the Mexican Valley; notes on the Cabinet council; notes on his journey home; includes comments on skeptics, and comments on faith.
